Reading can take us on a journey to fabulous places, real and imaginary. Through reading we become a better person, heading towards an improved future. This year, both the English and Chinese speaking guest authors have stories about journeys.
As a result, our Book Week theme this year is journeys, with the slogan, ‘Book Week 2025: Let’s Go!’ 我们出发吧!
Book Week activities that parents can help prepare for:
- Primary poster activity- all Primary students are invited to create a Book Week poster. To be handed-in after the Qing Ming holiday at either of the libraries.
- Book fair class visit- Class teachers will send out the day of your child’s book fair visit. Parents can choose to send in money with their child (100rmb is a suggestion with 200rmb as the maximum). Parents, ayis and other family members will be able to visit the fair with their child at drop-off and pick-up.
- Buddy reading in pyjamas, Tuesday 22 April- All ECE & Primary students are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate pyjamas with sensible footwear, on Tuesday 22 April. Students will be enjoying comfy buddy reading that day, with students from other year levels.
- Book character costume, Friday 25 April- All ECE & Primary students are invited to choose a book character to dress-up as on Friday 25 April. Characters from books about journeys are especially good choices, but not necessary. If possible, students can bring the book their costume is from, to school for the parade, although this is optional.
- Parent author session- On Wednesday 23 April, 2:30-3:15pm. Chinese visiting author, Ms. Zhou Xia, will be giving a session about children’s reading. A sign-up form will be sent out before the event, but until then, save the date!
Additionally, there will be Author Visits for K2-Year 6
Author sessions during the week is certainly a highlight for students. This year we are fortunate to host both the English-speaking author, Mr Sebastian Gili and the Chinese author, Ms. Zhou Xia for all ECE and Primary Year levels. Additionally, ECE will enjoy a session with Ms. Keneilwe Seate. So many authors and books to discover!
